DES MOINES – Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey today announced that he will be visiting Van Buren, Davis, Appanoose, Wayne and Decatur Counties on Monday, May 6 as part of his efforts to visit each of Iowa’s 99 counties again in 2013.
Northey will tour the Fox River Water Quality Project in Van Buren and Davis Counties and the Rathbun Lake Project in Appanoose and Wayne Counties to look at conservation practices installed by farmers to protect these water resources. Northey will then visit Graceland College to visit with students from Kosovo and agriculture business students as well as tour campus in Lamoni.

Davis County – 11:00 a.m., view conservation on Tom Delzell’s farm, 24128 Rainbow Ave., Bloomfield
Appanoose County – 12:00 p.m., lunch at Rathbun Lake at Island View #5 Shelter, Rathbun Lake Project overview, Islandview Place at the south end of Rathbun Lake Dam (if inclement weather, lunch will be held at the RRWA Water Treatment Plant located at 16166 Hwy J29, Centerville)
Wayne County – 1:40 p.m., view Water Improvement Review Board (WIRB) funded conservation practice, Darrell Coddington farm, two miles north of Corydon on Hwy 14
Decatur County – 3:30 p.m., visit with students and tour campus, Graceland University, Higdon Administration Building, Lamoni
Northey, a corn and soybean farmer from Spirit Lake, is serving his second term as Secretary of Agriculture. His priorities as Secretary of Agriculture are promoting the use of science and new technologies to better care for our air, soil and water, and reaching out to tell the story of Iowa agriculture.
