DES MOINES – Natural Gas prices in Iowa spiked $.19 from last week’s report, closing at $3.40. Wholesale ethanol prices were on the rise, also, up $.12, closing at $2.34.
Crude Oil Summary
The price of global crude oil rose this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $.13 per barrel over last week, closing at $93.28.
Brent crude oil fell in price this week, currently at $110.44 per barrel, down $1.25 from the previous week.
One year ago WTI crude sold for $100.71 and Brent crude was at $109.88.
Motor Fuels
As of Tuesday, January 15th, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.09 across Iowa according to AAA. This is down $.03 from last week and down $.11 from one year ago. The national average on Tuesday was $3.29, down a penny from last week’s price.
Retail diesel fuel prices in Iowa were down a penny on the Tuesday report with a statewide average of $3.78. One year ago diesel prices averaged $3.75 in Iowa. The current Iowa diesel average is $.12 per gallon lower than the national average of $3.90.
Wholesale ethanol prices rose $.12 this week, closing at $2.34. The price of Mid-Grade Blend in Iowa (10% ethanol) closed at $3.00 per gallon, down $.03 from last week’s price and down $.12 from one year ago.
Heating Fuels
Propane prices were down a penny from last week’s figures with a statewide average of $1.39 per gallon. Home heating oil rose a penny from last week’s figures, ending with a statewide average of $3.44 per gallon. Natural Gas prices in Iowa were up $.19 from last week’s report, ending the week at $3.40 / MMbtu.
