Crude Oil Summary
The price of global crude oil fell this week on the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) by $.30 per barrel over last week, closing at $92.09.
Brent crude oil rose in price this week, finishing at $115.00 per barrel on Tuesday’s close, up $.67 from the previous week.
One year ago WTI crude sold for $88.34 and Brent crude was at $112.92.
Motor Fuels
As of Tuesday, October 16th, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.68 across Iowa according to AAA. This is $.08 lower than last week and up $.25 from one year ago. The national average on Tuesday was $3.76, down $.05 from last week’s price.
Retail diesel fuel prices in Iowa rose $.13 on the Tuesday report with a statewide average of $4.21. One year ago diesel prices averaged $3.72 in Iowa. The current Iowa diesel average is $.07 per gallon higher than the national average of $4.14.
Wholesale ethanol prices fell this week by $.03, closing at $2.38. The price of Mid-Grade Blend in Iowa (10% ethanol) closed at $3.59 per gallon, down $.09 from last week’s price and up $.24 from one year ago.
Heating Fuels
Propane prices increased a penny from last week’s figures with a statewide average of $1.37 per gallon. Home heating oil rose $.10 from last week’s figures, ending with a statewide average of $3.87 per gallon. Natural Gas prices in Iowa rose $.08 from last week’s report, ending the week at $3.26 / MMbtu.
