NORTHEY TO VISIT CRESCO, DECORAH, WAUKON, MONONA AND HAWKEYE ON JULY 10 AND 11 AS PART OF 99 COUNTY TOUR

DES MOINES – Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey today announced that he will be visiting Howard, Winneshiek, Allamakee, Clayton and Fayette Counties on Tuesday, July 10th and Wednesday, July 11th as part of his efforts to visit each of Iowa’s 99 counties again in 2012.  The meetings give Northey an opportunity to hear from Iowans and discuss agriculture and the issues facing farmers and consumers in the state.

Northey will visit the Cresco Farmers Market, attend the Winneshiek County Fair in Decorah, host a town meeting in Waukon, visit a farm using robotic milking equipment in Monona and then tour Country View Dairy yogurt processing plant in Hawkeye.

The events in Cresco, Decorah, Waukon and Hawkeye are open to the press.  The Monona event is not open to the press due to biosecurity concerns, but Northey will be available to the media following the tour at 1:00 p.m.

Wednesday, June 27, 2012
Winneshiek County – 8:00 a.m., visit Winneshiek County Fair, county fairgrounds, E Main St., Decorah
Allamakee County – 10:00 a.m., host town meeting, Farm Bureau office, 14 1st Ave. NE, Waukon
Clayton County – 12:00 p.m., tour robotic milking parlor, 304 Franklin St., Monona
Fayette County – 2:00 p.m., tour Country View Dairy yogurt plant, 15197 230th St., Hawkeye

Northey, a corn and soybean farmer from Spirit Lake, is serving his second term as Secretary of Agriculture. His priorities as Secretary of Agriculture are promoting the use of science and new technologies to better care for our air, soil and water, and reaching out to tell the story of Iowa agriculture
