DES MOINES – Crude oil prices jumped again this past week on the West Texas Intermediate, increasing $5.10 to close at $105.84 per barrel. Unleaded gasoline prices also continued to increase, up $.04 this week in Iowa to $3.49 and the mid-grade blend with 10 percent ethanol increased $.04 as well to $3.41. Crude Oil Summary
The price of global crude oil spiked this week with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) $5.10 higher per barrel over last week, closing at $105.84.
Brent crude oil also jumped in price this week, finishing at $123.07 per barrel on Tuesday’s close, up $4.77 from the previous week.
One year ago WTI crude sold for $93.57 and Brent crude was at $106.82.
Motor Fuels
As of Tuesday, February 21st, the price of regular unleaded gasoline averaged $3.49 across Iowa according to AAA. This is up $.04 as compared to last week and up $.28 from one year ago. The national average on Tuesday was $3.58, up $.06 from last week’s price.
Retail diesel fuel prices in Iowa had a penny increase on the Tuesday report with a statewide average of $3.86. One year ago diesel prices averaged $3.50 in Iowa. The current Iowa diesel average is $.10 per gallon lower than the national average of $3.96.
Wholesale ethanol prices dropped $.03 this week, closing at $2.18. The price of Mid-Grade Blend in Iowa (10% ethanol) closed at $3.41 per gallon, up $.04 from last week’s price and up $.27 from one year ago.
Heating Fuels
This week propane held steady with a statewide average of $1.83 per gallon. Home heating oil rose $.03, ending with a statewide average of $3.51 per gallon. Natural Gas prices in Iowa rose $.10 ending the week at $2.62 / MMbtu.
