TREES FOR TROOPS PRESENTATION AT IOWA STATE FAIRGROUNDS NOVEMBER 28
80 trees from Iowa going to military members and their families around the world

DES MOINES – The Iowa Christmas Tree Growers Association will be at the State Fairgrounds at 9 a.m. on Monday, November 28th to donate Iowa grown Christmas trees to the “Trees for Troops” program.

“Trees for Troops” delivers real Christmas trees to military families at more than 60 military bases overseas and in the United States.  This is the program’s 6th year and it is expected to collect and deliver between 17,000 and 20,000 trees nationwide.  Iowa growers will be donating 80 trees.  This year, the goal is to reach 100,000 Christmas Trees delivered since 2005.

There are just over one hundred Choose and Cut Christmas Tree Farms in Iowa, with close to 1,500 acres in tree production.  Approximately 39,000 trees are harvested annually across the state.  Real trees are renewable and recyclable resources, they produce oxygen, prevent soil erosion, filter water, and provide wildlife habitat.

The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship is partnering with the Iowa Christmas Tree Growers Association and FedEx for the event.  Details follow here:
