DES MOINES – Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey will be speaking to participants at the Western Iowa No-Till Demonstration Field Day on Tuesday, June 15 at 9:15 a.m. The event will be held at the Carstens 1880 Farmstead, 32409 380th St., Shelby.
“These field days are a great opportunity to learn about new conservation techniques and get questions answered as farmers seek to continue improving efforts to reduce erosion and protect water quality in Iowa,” said Northey.
At this daylong event several specialists and practicing no-till farmers will address issues such as rotating crops, handling disease concerns, erosion control and waterway management and managing fertility while reducing the number of trips across your fields, which will reduce soil compaction, fuel and labor.
Registration for the day will start at 8:00 a.m. and the program will begin at 9:00 a.m. A full agenda and more information can be found at http://www.extension.iastate.edu/NR/rdonlyres/ED1FC845-6CC2-4149-B599-6BDB34DC531B/125472/WINbrochure20102.pdf.
Northey, a corn and soybean farmer from Spirit Lake, is serving his first term as Secretary of Agriculture. His priorities as Secretary of Agriculture are the opportunities in renewable energy, conservation and stewardship, and telling the story of Iowa agriculture.
