DES MOINES – Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey will be at the Highland Park Farmers Market in Des Moines on Thursday Aug. 6th from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. Northey will be participating in a demonstration of how easy it is to cook and enjoy fresh foods purchased from a local farmers market.
The demonstration will include grilled local fruits and vegetables and Iowa beef donated by the Iowa Beef Industry Council. Free kabobs made from the Iowa products will be available to shoppers at the market. Recipe cards and other materials will also be available.
The event is part of Iowa Farmers Market Week/National Farmers Market Week, which runs from August 2nd to the 8th. Iowa is a leader in farmers markets, with more than 220 located across the state which have an estimated $31.5 million impact on the Iowa economy.
