The Dairy Laboratory helps regulate the dairy industry in Iowa by ensuring the safety of the milk supply and keeping the state in compliance with regulations allowing the shipment of milk across state lines.

Tests performed in the Dairy Laboratory Include:

• Butterfat content             
• Pasteurization assurance
• Quantitative bacterial tests 

The Food Laboratory is responsible for the testing of meat products produced at locker plants throughout Iowa.

• Salt content
• Fat content
• Microbial contamination
