Iowa's Johne's Disease Control Program

Johne's Disease and Other Species

Johne’s disease can effect more than just dairy and beef cattle. Johne’s disease affects other ruminant species such as sheep and goats. Prevalence of Johne’s in ruminants other than cattle is not well known due to a lack of testing and reporting.

Animals can be tested for Johne’s by either a fecal culture or blood test.

To view an informational PowerPoint about Johne’s and specific species, including cattle, sheep and goats,  visit:

http://www.vetmedce.org/

There is no fee to sign up and view the producer modules. There is a fee to register for the veterinary module.

For more information about Johne’s disease in sheep and goats, email Dr. Randy Wheeler or call him at 515.281.0866.
