Child Eating Apple
"A" is for Apple Initiative

This initiative was first launched in 2008 as part of the Iowa Farm to School Program, in order to promote the purchase of locally-grown Iowa apples. Over 1800 students received apples in 2008.  Some classrooms even got to participate in an apple taste test and presentation as well as receive promotional items. In 2009, an Apple Kit with hands-on learning activities was created to promote apple education in the classroom.  Thirteen teachers received this kit to use in their classroom/schools, after purchasing apples for their students. In 2010, teachers from over 30 schools received a game, amazing apple book, and monetary assistance that included apples to 2,300 students.  And so the Apple tradition continues...

After 3 great years of growing interest and success, this Apple-ing initiative is back!  This year we are offering monetary assistance in procuring apples from a local producer (up to $50.00 a class) as well an apple scrabble game and promotional items for your students.

Incentives for teachers & students:

  • Get Iowa-grown apples into your classroom/school
  • Encourage healthy eating habits
  • Establish connections with local apple growers
  • Provide your students with a healthy snack

Participation Rules:

To participate in the “A is for Apple” Initiative, please complete the 2011 Teacher Application form below and return to us as soon as possible. All participation forms must be completed and submitted by September 16th, 2011.
